Cheng Shinoda Ishibash, the older brother of Hinata and the father of Darius. Cheng's clan, the Shadowstep had taken residence in the islands of Micronesia for years. But when Cheng's father had a change of heart, the Dragnis on the island started to bully and oppress their non-Dragni neighbors living on the island, to which Cheng adopted after his father's death at a very, very old age, giving Cheng opportunity to take over. Cheng considers himself Superior of all the Dragnis there and considers himself an alpha, even his actions show this.
Cheng's sister Hinata usually leaves the island in order to learn of other lands, for her heart isn't the same as Cheng and her grandfather who oppress others on the island. Cheng accompanied her 3 times already and the 3rd time, this trip lead them to Old Japan. Cheng thinks of his Japanese brothers as weak and feeble, relying on machines to do their work for them. But among many men he ran into in Old Japan, he showed honor and respect to Joseph Konta. When Hinata spoke to Joseph about the dojo she trains at, he was interested in trying it out, to fight their best fighters,and due t this the two fell in love with each other, with Cheng uneasy about this union of the two and knew about Hinata's soon to be arranged marriage to Akuzu, another skilled fighter from the dojo.
Cheng soon became friends with Joseph Konta, however, Akuzu was angered by Jospeh, callinh him an outsider. Cheng even challenged Jospeh to combat and was amazed at how skilled anon-Dragni fighter was.
It wasn't long until Akuzu poisoned Cheng and put the blame on Joseph, which caused the other students in the dojo to fall for the bait and attempt to capture Jospeh, who Hinata helped hide away on the island.
Unaware of the situation, Cheng was placed in bed rest, for the poison was strong enough to kill him, instead, damaged him badly.As his body tried to fight off the toxins in his body, his skin darken and his face became more reptilian like. The reason for this is because Dragnis who are this strong are literal fighters in trying to survive. Darius watched helplessly as his father suffers and hated Konta, thinking he had poisoned his father. Akuzu returned and was given ruler-ship until Cheng was back on his feet. Akuzu abused his power and trained Cheng's son, Darius while Cheng was ill.
Cheng eventually disappears without a trace from the dojo and went off into the cold mountains to mediate. He knew he could not fight Joseph, but he knew soon his offspring will make their presence known. It is also unknown if Cheng wa aware of Akuzu's union with The Sheer Family later on.
