In this game, Gemmy appears as one of the primary characters and an ally Link first encounters. Gemmy attempts to rescue Link from the Moblin hideout, only to find out Link didn't need the help to escape, resulting in Link saving Gemmy from the collapsing underground. Gemmy reason for traveling into the Lost Woods was to seek out his obnoxious cousin, who took Gemmy's sister and horse along with her, probably to prove her point.
