After the challenges Link had to face, he is later reunited with Kafei and Skull Kid (Stal Kid). AS for Kafei, bits of his memory has been lost due to an earlier fight with a dark figure, this had been further explained by Skull Kid himself who tells Link of about Sakon and what they had to face within the depths of The Clock Tower.

During the travel to the desert, Link begins to reminisce on past events in Termina, and remembered the song that the Happy Mask Salesman had taught him, The Song of Healing. Link attempted to use the song on Kafei, however, this did not heal him of his lost memories. The battle he had with the dark figure severed his memories entirely. He still recognized Link from seeing him in Termina, however, the events of which Link helped him out with had been long gone. Skull Kid spoke to Link once again and described the dark figure to Link.

The two were quickly introduced to Gemmy and others accompanying Link on his journey and further explained the purpose of it. The group boarded a ship that is soon on it's way to the desert, The Soli'Dad Province.

Link attempted to use the song on Kafei, however, this did not heal him of his lost memories. The battle he had with the dark figure severed his memories entirely.
